Extending eastwards from Greenham Common, Crookham has many of the features of the former, Gorse, Heather and low cover for ground nesting birds such as Skylark and Meadow Pipits.
Where Crookham Common nears the Brimpton Road there is a substantial area of thicker, deeper cover - from brambles to mature trees. Here summer visitors are frequently found including a variety of Warblers, good numbers of Nightingales and occasional Nightjar.
When the "Birds of Berkshire" was compiled 73 species of bird were recorded on Crookham Common.
