Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre is situated just to the south of the A4 between Newbury and Thatcham. The centre is open to the public Tuesday - Friday 1pm - 4pm and Weekends & School Holidays 11am - 5pm but the lake and Reedbed Nature Reserve is open 24 hours a day. The centre manages the Vodaphone hide which overlooks a small area the of reedbeds, access is strictly controlled and keys can be obtained from the centre.

As well as the reedbeds, there are lakes, damp woodlands, a river and a canal, all forming a varied wetland landscape. This mixture of different habitats makes this area very attractive to wildlife and is especially important for breeding birds including Reed and Sedge Warblers, Nightingale, Cuckoo and the rare Cetti's Warbler.
