Heathland (with
bog) and areas of woodland covering 10.4 hectares. The reserve is the remnant
of the former Inkpen Great Common, and in the past it was kept open because
the local people had rights of common to graze their livestock, without this
cropping, gorse and birch would have taken over the common completely. Birds
of this habitat include Woodcock and Treepipits, and the occasional Cuckoo
has been heard here.
