High above the village on the road between Kingsclere and Overton is the Hannington radio mast (with it's own little car park), across the road from this landmark is Kingsclere Down. This high plateau affords spectacular views across the Greenham and Crookham Commons, down into the Kennet Valley and of towards the Ridge at Coldash beyond. On a hot sunny summers afternoon it is possible to watch Buzzards and occasionaly Red Kites circling in the skies over the farmland below. Kestrels regularly hunt along the edges of the down, looking amoungst the low hillside scrub for voles. Walking along the track can sometime afford views of Corn Buntings, and during migration it would be possible to catch just about anything going over the down, and during the winter the gallops attract passing Fieldfares.
